Verify invoicing and compliance before you worry about price. In 2022, I found a great price from a new vendor—$2,400 cheaper than our regular supplier. They could not provide a proper invoice, only a handwritten receipt. Finance rejected the expense report. I ate the cost out of the department budget. Now I verify invoicing capability before placing any order.

The checklist: specs confirmed, compliance docs received, tooling ownership clear, artwork approval path agreed, payment terms clear, and sample approval signed. In that order. There is something satisfying about approving a label trial that cuts rejects from 6% to 1.5%. But that only happens when the boring admin work is done first.
